Overview
The A.Y. McDonald E-Series 89000 is a true self-priming sprinkler pump. A suction-side flapper valve lets it prime — and re-prime — from an open source the centrifugal Workhorse cannot draw from on its own, making it the right choice when the pump must sit above a pond, lake, shallow well, or storage tank.
Where most sprinkler pumps cut corners on internals, the 89000 is reinforced with stainless steel where it matters: a 304 stainless insert on the impeller, a stainless wear ring between the impeller and diffuser, a 304 stainless motor shaft with a wrench flat, and stainless bolt hardware tying the pump to the motor. The result is high flow — up to 85 GPM through 1-1/2 in ports — built to shrug off the grit and seasonal cycling that wear ordinary sprinkler pumps out. Available in 1, 1-1/2, and 2 HP. For non-potable service only.

How Self-Priming Helps You
A centrifugal pump must be full of water to move it. The 8900’s suction-side flapper valve traps liquid in the casing so the pump evacuates air from the suction line and pulls a prime on its own at start-up — and recovers prime if the suction line picks up air mid-season. That is what lets it sit above a pond, lake, ditch, or storage tank and still draw water reliably, where an end-suction pump would lose prime and run dry.Diagram & Detail
